ANNOUNCEMENT OF COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS

TO HIGH SCHOOLS SENIORS

The Illinois Sons of Italy Foundation of the Order Sons of Italy in America, a national fraternal society, is offering college scholarships to high school graduates of Italian ancestry. Scholarships, in the amount of $1000. will be awarded to graduating high school seniors, payable upon their enrollment in an academic junior college, college or university.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

1. Graduating senior who are wholly or partially of Italian ancestry from any recognized high school, public or private, within the Chicagoland area.

2. Application blanks will be mailed directly to the applicant upon written request made to the Illinois Sons of Italy Foundation, 9447 West 144th Place, Orland Park, Illinois 60462, or via email at osiail@aol.com. A self-addressed, stamped envelope must be enclosed.

3. Scholarships will be based upon the following consideration:

(a) financial need

(b) academic record

(c) high school activity record

(d) other evidence of ability or leadership

(e) personal statements

(f) recommendation

4. The application must be complete and signed by the candidate and by a parent or guardian of the candidate. Supporting documents include:

(a) an official transcript which includes grades for the first semester of senior year and rank in class.

(b) two letters of recommendation, one from a faculty member or counselor.

(c) a short essay stating the candidate’s educational goals, future aspirations and what the candidate’s Italian heritage means to him or her.

5. The application, properly executed by the candidate, parent or guardian along with the supporting documents, must be submitted to the Scholarship Committee not later than July 1st.

6. The winners will be notified on or before August 31st.

Note: It is mandatory that the selected winners attend the Grand Lodge Annual Columbus Banquet in October to receive their scholarship.
